SBS 2 is launching. A new digital channel. An event of potential excitement. I caught the head of SBS talking about it.
We have to be very careful when creating the new channel. We don't want to create too much new content & scare the viewers off.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Friend - If the main SBS channel is Sex Between Soccer, I guess this one will be Soccer Between Sex.
Me - Good one. Sounds like it'll be repeats of Soccer Between repeats of Sex.
Have switched over a couple of times to watch the Tour de France while the Ashes were on SBS1. Occasional movie on when something boring on main channel. Certainly appeared to be repeats.
Verdict - Better to have than no 2nd channel. However, a 2nd channel running identical content to original on a six hour delay is better than no extra channel too.
Await with seat-scratching fury the arrival of GO99. Channel 9's surplus offering. Australia has been cheated out of a fourth (!) commercial TV station for far too long.
-------
GO99 has a music show. That plays video clips in succesive rotation. I have seen Ricki-Lee Coulter, Alesha Dixon, Jet et al 10 times in one day. Woe. Positive: better than the days when trusty Hot Dogs (yes, that was his chosen moniker) brought us the creeping joys of late night 'trivia'. Which was immediately copied by the other two agoraphobe networks. Twas too cheap to resist. Hmmm. Rejected New Zealand TV is the other gracious offering from this digital simulacrum.
